The Bank Holiday weekend here in the United Kingdom means that there is not a lot of motor sport choice as May begins.
Round four of the 2016 Formula One season comes from Russia, which moves from its early October slot in the calendar. Russia is Sky Sports F1’s third exclusively live race of the season, with Channel 4 screening highlights of both qualifying and the race on the edge of primetime.
There is no further action of four wheels to be aware of this weekend looking at the schedule. Further afield on two wheels, the Speedway Grand Prix season gets underway live on BT Sport. British Eurosport meanwhile plays host to both the World and British Superbike Championships and as is tradition, the domestic super bike action takes place on Bank Holiday Monday.

As always, if anything changes, I will update the schedule.
Last updated on May 1st at 11:00 to reflect the BBC Radio 5 Live schedule change. Race coverage will now be on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra so that the main station can cover updates in the Manchester United vs Leicester City football match.
The cupboard is not entirely bare, some choice is available! Can I mention: IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from Laguna Seca (live streaming on their website), Italian GT Championship (possible website streaming), British GT Championship (get yourself along to Rockingham) and ADAC GT Masters from Sachsenring (doubtless coverage in Germany).
Of course there’s a historic meeting that I’m going to at donington this weekend… Not that I’m bragging 😉
World Superbikes – Imola
30/04 – 12:00 to 13:15 – Superpole (British Eurosport 2)
The WorldSBK website indicates that Superpole will take place 10:30 – 11:10 UK time, with race 1 starting midday. Yet the TV schedule showing on tv.eurosport.co.uk describes this broadcast as follows:
12:00
ALL SPORTS
Live World Superbikes – Round 5: Italy – Qualifying & Race one (75min)
I’m not sure how they plan to broadcast qualifying AND race 1 both live in that slot!
BBC 5 live’s coverage of the race is now on Sports Extra from 12:30 to 16:00
Thanks, I’ve changed this now.
Not sure why the Bank Holiday is an issue causing the dearth of motorsport? Indeed seems poor planning as btcc gets some of its biggest crowds when the Monday is off (e.g. easter last year). Hopefully as Gow indicated other series will get their house in order and we see less of the fixture pile ups in the uk (e.g. wec, gts, btcc all running the same day) next year.
I know its too late but there is often motor racing at Castle Combe and it was live on Motors TV today and being repeated a couple of times ove r the next few days – was good racing – was there!!!
